Problem: In many traditional U.S. schooling experiences, students are required to take at least some language courses. However, despite completing these courses, many people do not continue learning or retain the information beyond the required curriculum. While language learning apps provide accessible opportunities, they often lack the immersive experience of authentic conversation in the target language.
How might we foster connection across cultural and language barriers with authentic interactions through gamification and community?
Solution: A language and cultural learning community that prioritizes conversation and connection. This community is built around two core components: a multiplayer card game and a podcast. The card game consists of two main phases—a trivia round and a conversation round. The trivia round enhances cultural knowledge, while the conversation round builds confidence in speaking the target language. The podcast further strengthens the community by engaging avid travelers, language learners, and culturally curious individuals.
